Fiber Optic Faceplates

I am trying to find out more about these devices. In particular, how to model them. In other words, can one use a convolution technique to model how an image on one side is transfered to the other side? And also in specific planes away from the device? (I would assume that the image at the output surface is a replica of what entered, but due to numerical aperture, it would diverge as it traveled to the next imaging surface).
