How to compute the energy of scalar wave equation

$

Hi,

considering the scalar wave equation
$$
{ \partial^2 u \over \partial t^2 } = c^2 \nabla^2 u
$$
(where ∇^2 is the (spatial) Laplacian and where c is a fixed constant)

how can I derive the potential and kinetic energy for a given state u and u' ?

Thanks and cheers
